If you’re building a summer mezze platter, you can find most of what you need already prepared at the grocery store: hummus, roasted red peppers, tzatziki, seasoned nuts. However, harissa and spicy feta are two simple dip recipes you can add in to give your platter a homemade touch. Both of these spreads keep beautifully, so you can add them to sandwiches, salads and more later on, too.

Ingredients

  • Harissa
  • 1 15-ounce can tomato paste
  • ½ cup olive oil, plus more if needed
  • 1/3 cup crushed red pepper
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • ½ tablespoon salt
  • ½ tablespoon black pepper
  • Spicy Feta
  • 8 ounces crumbled feta
  • 2 jalapeños, seeds in, minced finely, plus extra slices for garnishing
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Drizzle of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  • Harissa: Pulse all ingredients together in a food processor. Add in more olive oil as needed until you’ve reached a spreadable consistency. Serve with an extra drizzle of olive oil to top.
  • Spicy Feta: Stir all ingredients together in a medium bowl. Finish with a fresh cracked pepper and a garnish of jalapeño slices.
