Hot Spiced (and Spiked!) Cider

Hot Spiced (and Spiked!) Cider Related:   drinks, gluten-free, low-fat, pareve, Shabbat, Sukkot, vegan, vegetarian

Cook time: 5–10 mins

Yield: 10–12 servings

While we encourage home fermentation experiments, for those of us looking for an alcoholic treat to serve in the Sukkah or on a cool night this season (rather then several months from now), here is a more immediate option.


  • 1 gallon fresh apple cider (unfiltered apple juice)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole allspice berries
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 4-5 slices fresh ginger
  • 1 bottle spiced rum


  • Combine apple cider and spices in a large pot and bring almost to a boil over medium-low heat. Pour into festive mugs. Top off with a shot of spiced rum (to taste).
