Compota de Frutas Secas de Gladys (Gladys’ Dried Fruit Compote)

Cook time: 45 minutes

Yield: 8–10 servings


  • 15 prunes
  • 8 ounces sweet wine, like Manischewitz
  • 6 apples (not Macintosh)
  • 1 6-ounce package dried apricots
  • ¼ cup dried cranberries
  • ¼ cup dried blueberries
  • 10 pieces dried mango
  • 1 quart apple juice
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • Juice of 1 lemon


  • Soak the prunes in wine for 1 hour. Chop the apples (leave skin on) into ½-inch pieces. Add all the dried fruit, including prunes and wine, to a large pot. Cover with apple juice and top with apples, honey and lemon juice. Set pot over medium heat and cover. Simmer for 45 minutes. Let cool.
