Please join Sephardic Jews in DC for a traditional Sephardic Rosh Hashanah Meal and Seder.
Yes, you read that correctly, we’re hosting a Seder. Did you know that Sephardim have a custom of adding a Rosh Hashanah “seder” featuring lots of different kinds of symbolic vegetables, fruits and even a lamb’s head to symbolize the holiday? Read more about it here.
On the first night of the holiday Rosh Hashanah, Sephardim hold a special ceremony during which we recite blessings over a variety of foods that symbolize our wishes for the year ahead. The blessings in this ritual all begin with the words “Yehi ratzon” (may it be God’s will), and they all ask for divine gifts of bounty, strength and peace. The ritual has come to be known as a “seder” (order) because the blessings are recited in a specific order. Interestingly, that order varies according to custom and community.
The dinner will feature delicious and traditional Rosh Hashanah dishes from across the Sephardic world. This event is geared towards Young Professionals in their 20-30s. Menu to be posted soon.
The dinner will be kosher, and many gluten-free and vegan options will be available. Please email Jacquelinenfeldman@gmail.com with any questions.
Note: We cannot issue any refunds for this event.
