The MLK Interfaith Freedom Seder
Silver Spring United Methodist Church
Tuesday, April 3, 2018
6:30 PM — 9:00 PM
8900 Georgia Ave.
Silver Spring, MD 20910 United States
Celebrate the revival with song, dance, storytellers recounting their Freedom Seder personal stories and enjoy community discussions about what freedom from oppression means while sharing Passover traditional foods and a light fare.
The Seder will highlight 60’s Civil Rights memories as was done 49 years ago and discuss where we are now together with Jewish, Christian, and Muslim congregations. Rabbi Arthur Waskow will share excerpts from the new “MLK+50 Interfaith Freedom Seder” that he has woven and The Shalom Center is distributing for this 50th anniversary of the murder of Dr. King along with others who were at the first Jews for Urban Justice Freedom Seder including Topper Carew. Congressman Jamie Raskin (who, as a child was at the first JUJ Freedom Seder) and Congresswoman Barbara Lee are invited guests. Featured, around the themes of oppression, liberation and freedom, are the Silver Spring Methodist Church Gospel Choir, the IMAAM Center Choir, D.C. Labor Choir and Song Rise. We will join together for the inspirational call to continue the struggle for a better world.
