Welcome to our Table!
The Jewish Food Experience® (JFE®), an exciting new project launched in December 2012, brings people together through the universal language of Jewish food, which is so much a part of Jewish culture, tradition and even religion. And food is a shared experience, so JFE® also wants to help you make the most of times with families and friends.
First, JFE® invites you to participate through this website, where local “foodies” including chefs, restaurateurs, wine experts, food critics and writers will share exciting news, recipes and stories with a uniquely local focus. We’re bringing you Jewish food with modern twists, international flavors, tastes for holidays and occasions, the latest about the local Jewish food scene, volunteer efforts to fight hunger, food-related events and, of course, delicious recipes that will include locally sourced and organic options as well as vegetarian, gluten-free and other dietary needs. We also want to hear from you, our readers, as you comment on recipes or share your own in our online recipe collection.
In addition to jewishfoodexperience.com, a variety of delicious events throughout the year in DC, MD and VA offer ways to connect through contests and cook-offs, tastings, demonstrations, embassy programs and more. JFE® seeks to build partnerships and cooperative projects with other community organizations and businesses including restaurants, markets, synagogues, social groups, food banks, food cooperatives, farms and others.
The United Jewish Endowment Fund and The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington
JFE® is a project of the United Jewish Endowment Fund of The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. Developed as a response to a desire for new and different community experiences, the JFE® website is designed as a gateway to participation opportunities across the Greater Washington area.
The United Jewish Endowment Fund (UJEF) is the planned giving and endowment arm of The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. UJEF provides the opportunity to establish a legacy that will shape and improve Jewish life for generations. It connects philanthropists with opportunities to meet Jewish needs and to engage in tikkun olam (repairing the world).
The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington strives to create a vibrant and purposeful Jewish community through caring for those in need, deepening engagement in Jewish life, and strengthening the bonds among Jews in the Washington area, in Israel, and around the world. These programs serve 110,000 Jewish households and 270,000 people throughout Northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
In the spirit of tzedakah, Federation develops philanthropic resources, robust Jewish leadership, creative programmatic initiatives and partnerships to build and maintain a strong Jewish community locally and worldwide. Empowered by a sense of arevut (solidarity), tikkun olam (repair of the world) and gemilut hasadim (loving kindness) and a drive for excellence, we work together with our donors, volunteers, partner agencies and professionals to forge a meaningful Jewish present and future.
