After traveling extensively through Latin America in the 2000s, I created my first cookbook, Mi Comida Latina, an illustrated collection of all the Latin recipes I had gathered. I am now working on my second illustrated cookbook, focusing on Cuban cuisine. I spent most of the month of April in Cuba, meeting home cooks, tasting and learning how to make Cuban dishes and recording them in writing and illustrations. Through JFE®, I connected and visited with Samy and Gladys Sapayo, who shared their Sephardic okra with plantain recipe with me, in Miami, on my way to Cuba.
