The Great Kugel-Off
Tuesday, September 19, 2017
7:00 PM — 9:30 PM
1529 16th Street NW
Washington, DC 20036 United States
Kugel! Noodle-y goodness that is the staple dish at any Rosh Hashanah Dinner. We can’t get enough and know you can’t too! Compete in our Kugel Off competition and be voted DC Kugel Champ in sweet, savory, and unique categories. Not a top chef? Taste-test our competitors dishes and learn to make kugel while doing good. We will donate kugels made at the event to our local seniors this New Year.
Cheftestants: Show off your culinary skills! Create a kugel dish in your own kitchen to enter into our competition, then bring your entry to our “Kitchen Stadium” for the Judges’ Panel. You can enter into one of three categories: sweet, savory or unique. Dishes must be completed at home but can be warmed up in our ovens.* You may enter with a group/friends but please email us at Stacym@edcjcc.org to let us know if there is more than 1 chef attending the event so we can help you purchase the correct tickets.
Be prepared to have samples available for 40-50 tasters. Two 9-by-12 pans of kugel should be about right. Please bring a list of all ingredients and label your pans with your name if you are not bringing something disposable – your dish must be kosher-style or use kosher meat.
Nosher: Not a cook? Bring your friends to taste each dish, enjoy some beverages and snacks that complement the food, learn to make kugel while doing good and vote for your favorite kugel.
Prizes will be awarded for Noshers’ Winners in each category and Judge’s favorite.
Grand Prize: $50 to Eat Well DC Restaurant Group (The Bird, The Pig, Commissary, Logan Tavern, Grillfish)
Max Bluestein, Three Time Pickle Eating Champion and Mr. Yogato Yogurt Eating Champion
More to be announced!
Pre-registration required for Cheftestants and closes Thursday, September 14; Noshers tickets available until we sell out.
*Due to Cheftestants cooking in their homes EPDC cannot guarantee all dishes will be kosher.
This event is for those in their 20s and 30s
